Judith trained her first dog – the family German shepherd – at the
tender age of 13. This was the start of her love of working with dogs.
She then admittedly became side-tracked with horses and spent many years
helping out at a riding school. After completing her teachers training,
Judith headed for Australia where she trained polo ponies for eight
years.
Upon her return to South Africa Judith managed a riding school and
acquired her first dog – a beautiful black Labrador. Judith admits that
despite her “newbie” status her dog did very well in obedience, the show
ring and field trials. Judith was hooked!
Judith was fascinated by the whole training process and by how
incredibly responsive dogs are to every body movement and tone of voice.
Due to major back problems she sadly had to give up her interest in
horses and go back to teaching, but now was also giving obedience
classes in her spare time. Fourways Vet then asked Judith to offer obedience classes to
their clients and she has continued with service ever since.

Judith’s school, Way Fourward, offers puppy I and II classes,
obedience classes (up to and including competitive obedience), carting
and agility. At weekends she also gives classes for competitive field
trial dogs (Judith is pictured left during a trial with one of her
Golden Retrievers).
During the last 10 years Judith has bred, owned and trained three field
trial champions, two obedience champions, five carting champions, two
breed champions and three grand master hunting retrievers. All of
Judith’s dogs have gained the “Companion Dog Excellent” title in working
trials and she has also competed with her dogs in agility and dog
jumping.
In
addition to her classes, Judith also has a professional interest in
landscaping and her interests include mosaic work, decoupage, card
making, reading, walking and bird watching. |
