“Animals are my
life and give me so much joy and companionship. I want to help all
my clients feel the same enjoyment”.
Gill grew up on a
farm in the Karoo and animals have always been her passion. She had
dreams of becoming a veterinarian or a farmer, but in those days
“Girls didn’t invade male dominated professions!”. So she studied at
the University of Cape Town and obtained a BSc degree majoring in
Zoology and Botany.
While doing
ecological research in the Karoo Gill met and married a farmer. She
then farmed for many years and raised two children.
The farm was
subsequently sold and Gill decided to study again. In 2001 she
enrolled in the late Prof. Odendaal’s canine and feline behaviour
course which she followed in 2002 with the advanced canine and
feline behaviour courses as well as equine behaviour.
In mid-June 2002
Gill relocated to a smallholding in Joostenbergvlakte in the Western
Cape. On her smallholding Gill takes care of six horses, milk goats,
ducks, chickens, cats and dogs. Gill also bred with English Pointers
and Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
For the past nine
years Gill has been running puppy classes from her home and also in
Stellenbosch (these classes are now held at the Zimzala Estate just
outside Stellenbosch).
Gill’s puppy
classes are for puppies between the age of 9 – 16 weeks. She also
offers a basic home obedience course for pups and dogs over the age
of 4.5 months.
Gill has been a
member of the Animal Behaviour Consultants of SA for the past decade
and has also been a registered Companion Animal Behaviourist with
SABCAP since its inception.
Gill has also
volunteered for welfare organisations such as DARG and at present
has a number of rescue dogs living with her.
