Chris first started dog training as a child, when he used to take the family pet to a training school.  This was brought about by Chris's interest in animals generally, but especially dogs.  He enjoyed working with them because of their intelligence and willingness to learn and found their progress very rewarding.  Furthermore he has also found their unconditional loyalty to mankind incredible.

Because of this interest Chris started to study Veterinary Science but was forced to drop out when his father passed away and finances ran out.  Chris was then drafted into the armed forces and joined the Military Police where he was able to work with dogs.  Chris qualified as a Dog Training Instructor in 1980 and worked with both the Army and South African Police Dog Units.

Chris then acquired his own German Shepherd and joined a dog training school called K9 Training Centre.  The owner of K9 emigrated in 1994 and because of Chris's dog training experience and love of working with dogs, he took over the school with a partner.  They ran the school together until 2007 when Chris's partner retired.  Chris has since run the school on his own.

Chris has actively trained dogs as an Instructor for 29 years and has run a dog training school for 15 years.

When it was in existence, Chris was a member of the South African Association of Dog Obedience Instructors and he is currently an associate member of the Animal Behaviour Consultants and Human Animal Interaction Group. Chris belongs to these associations because he believes there needs to be a forum where people working with dogs can network and share new training ideas and methodologies.

Chris comments: "These days, there are many new methods of dog training being evolved and it is important to keep abreast of them.  To this end, I try monitor overseas trends, watch videos and read books."

Chris sees his role as fighting ignorance amongst dog owners, which is invariably the cause of a dog's "problems”. He believes that all families (especially those with children) should own a dog due to the enjoyment they bring.  As ALL dog ownership should be a pleasant experience, dog (and handler) training is vital for all dog owners to ensure this happens.

Chris's school, K9 Training Centre,  offers a wide of range of training that covers most interests and includes Obedience, Socialising, Agility, Manwork, Tracking, Scent Discrimination, Distance Control and many other disciplines.
